Grace, Growth, Gratitude: Celebrating 65 Years of the Central Jamaica Conference
On 26 October 1961, the East and West Jamaica Conferences gave birth to the Central Jamaica Conference. Under the leadership of its first president, Pastor Hiram S. Walters, the young conference began with 10,497 members worshipping in 131 congregations. Sixty-five years later, we celebrate God's faithfulness at every step of the journey.
This anniversary documentary traces that journey from those beginnings to the present day. It covers the building of the conference office and campsite and the 2002 realignment that ceded St Mary and St Ann to the North Jamaica Conference. It then follows the steady growth that has made the Central Jamaica Conference the largest in the union, with 105,798 members across 54 pastoral districts, served by 210 workers.
The film honours the nine presidents who have led the conference to this milestone. It also highlights the conference's wider ministry:
- Education: the Willowdene Group of Schools and the Campbell Castle Preparatory School
- Health: the H.S. Walters Health Centre, which has served Sydenham and the surrounding communities for around 30 years and has grown in size and services over the past decade
- Evangelism and community service: the work of literature evangelists, Life Hope Centres at the Mandeville and Portmore Seventh-day Adventist churches, community welfare partnerships, and a food pantry that distributes more than 2,000 food and care packages each month
The story is guided by God's grace, shaped by growth and carried by hearts full of gratitude. It looks back on how far God has brought the conference and forward to where He is leading next.
