A deeply moving tribute segment, aptly titled “Voices of a Century,” captured the breadth of Elder Holmes’ influence. Pastor John Lyle brought greetings on behalf of friends, while Pastor Holmes’ daughters, Trudy-Anne Holmes-Caines and Dahlia Holmes, shared heartfelt reflections that revealed both the public servant and the devoted father behind the pulpit.
“My father’s life has always been anchored in prayer and obedience,” shared Trudy-Anne Holmes-Caines.

“Even this morning, the first thing I saw him doing was praying. Obedience to God was not something he preached only—it was how he lived, and it is one of the reasons we are here celebrating 100 years today,” she said.

A Life of Service and Influence
Born in Darlington, Westmoreland, Pastor Holmes surrendered his life to the Adventist Church at the age of 17, beginning an extraordinary 83-year journey of ministry. After theological training at the West Indies Training College, he served as pastor and chaplain in the East Jamaica Conference, later ministered in the Cayman Islands, and eventually gave distinguished service within the Central Jamaica Conference.
At CJC, he served as district pastor and Publishing and Temperance Director, championing the power of the printed word, healthy living, and holistic Christian development. Even after his official retirement in 1995, Pastor Holmes continued to minister as a trusted voice on Love 101 FM’s “Morning Manna,” offering counsel and hope to families across Jamaica.
