As part of its 65th anniversary activities, the Central Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (CJC) is inviting volunteers to contribute their time, tools and talent to Labour Day projects at the Spanish Town Parish Library and the Alta Vista Children’s Village on May 24, 2026.

As part of its 65th anniversary activities, the Central Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (CJC) is inviting volunteers to contribute their time, tools and talent to Labour Day projects at the Spanish Town Parish Library and the Alta Vista Children’s Village on May 24,2026.

The projects were selected  from a desire to give back meaningfully to the community.

CJC communication director, Kimarley Walker-Medley, says the library building is visibly in need of improvements while the children’s home needs assistance to change locations.

“We are enhancing the library space to encourage more people to visit, read, and learn because an educated community contributes to a stronger country. Alta Vista was selected because the home in Four Paths, Clarendon, is being relocated to Bog Walk. A house which was donated to accommodate the residents needs repairs to prepare the facility,” she said.

The activities are open to all members who can contribute but youth, Adventist Community Services (ACS) volunteers and skilled workers are especially asked to participate.

Volunteers should be prepared to paint, landscape, make repairs, file and organize among other tasks.

Both projects begin at 9:00 am. Volunteers for the Library project are asked to assemble at the Parish Church across from it, as parking on the library compound is limited.

For Alta Vista, transportation details will be given via conference communication channels in the coming days.

Organisers say the initiative is intended to promote teamwork, camaraderie and a strengthened spirit of volunteerism among members.

“While the activities are not a formal evangelistic outreach effort, they reflect the Church’s commitment to service, community care and making a positive social impact as it celebrates 65 years of ministry in central Jamaica,” Walker Medley explained.

Volunteers are asked to wear comfortable, practical work wear and to bring a willing heart to serve the community.
