The Youth Ministries
Depart of Central Jamaica Conference under the leadership of Pastor
Ivor Harry, Youth Ministries Director, along with his dedicated team
of young people put on a grand Youth Health Fair and Symposium. The
event was held under the theme, ‘Youth - Your Health a Most Powerful
Tool; Preserve it Now’. It was held over three days, March 12-14,
2009, on the grounds of the Willowdene Group of Schools and the
Family of God Seventh-day Adventist Church in Spanish Town, St.
Catherine.

The President of Central
Jamaica Conference, Pastor Everett Brown, and the Principal of the
Willowdene Group of Schools, Elder Basil Tabbanor, welcomed all the
participants and guest to this historic and well needed event.
Pastor Harry expressed satisfaction that the dream had finally come
to fruition and thanked all his team members for the hard worked
they had put in. Special mention was made of Keisha Sterling the
coordinator of the event.

Individuals from all
levels of society were in attendance, from the smallest child in
preparatory school to the elderly among us. Persons from the
Ministries of Health and Education, the Parish Council, elected
government representatives and schools in and around Spanish Town
came to the event.

The two main presenters
were Mrs. Lyn Kennedy-McKenzie who gave the opening address on
Thursday March 12 and Dr. Carton Chambers who gave the Divine Hour
Sermon on Saturday March 14. Both individuals spoke on the main
theme giving emphasis on the fact that God has entrusted us with the
care of our bodies and if we only follow His advice we would be
healthier and stronger individuals. Other presenters included Dr.
Aggrey Irons who spoke on Youth and Stress and Deon Bent who
addressed youth health issues.

Representatives from the Road Safety Unit
explains to a group of students from the Willowdene Group of Schools
about the correct ways to use the island’s roads.
Noticeable also was
corporate Jamaica and other organizations. These companies had
booths and displays in the main auditorium, to give advice and
dispense products. The list of companies and organizations included;
Andrews Memorial Hospital, Northern Caribbean University, the
Diabetes Association, the Sickle Cell Unit, Jamaica Cancer Society,
National Family Planning Board, Road Safety Unit, Lasco Foods and
Lasco Pharmaceuticals, Facey Pharmaceuticals, P.A. Benjamin Mfg.
Ltd., Symmetry Distributors, Palms Pharmacy, St. Catherine Coop
Credit Union, VMBS, Eden Garden Restaurant and Power 106 FM (who
provided a live broadcast from the event).
Eveth Daniels, Administrative Assistant for the CJC Youth Ministries
Department, receiving firsthand the quality care being given free of
cost at the Youth Health Fair and Symposium. Doing the blood
pressure check is a representative from Palms Pharmacy.
