Persons in attendance at the St.
Catherine Convention joined hands as they seek the Lord’s leading
and guidance in the affairs of Central Jamaica Conference in 2008.
Sunday, February 3, 2008, saw the last of a series of three
conventions to be held in Central Jamaica Conference as hundreds of
Seventh-day Adventist members flooded Camp Verley for the St.
Catherine Convention. Dr. Herbert Thompson, President of Northern
Caribbean University, was the main devotional speaker and he spoke
on the topic ‘God Cannot Be Rushed’ in the light of convention
theme, ‘Signs of Hope.’

Dr. Herbert Thompson, President of
Northern Caribbean University, pouring out the burden that the Lord
laid on his heart for persons at the St. Catherine Convention. Dr.
Thompson was the main devotional speaker.
His
sermon was taken from Isaiah 49 depicting God’s love for Israel even
though they were being oppressed by the Babylonians and brought in
captivity. He made it clear that though we may be going though hard
times we should never forget that we have a mighty God on our side
and he will bring us through in His time.

Pastor Everett Brown, President of
Central Jamaica Conference, pointing out the focus of the Conference
for 2008, which is the mandate given by God “to go and make
disciples of men”.
Pastor Everett Brown, President of Central Jamaica Conference, then
proceeded to review 2007 and highlight the strategic issues of the
Conference for the year 2008. The main focus however was on this
year’s Pentecost and More experience. Several evangelistic campaigns
will be hosted throughout the Conference and each member is expected
to become actively involved in the salvation souls. With this
concept well implemented, it is expected that a more personal
relationship with God will be developed, as the Word of God is
shared enthusiastically with those in need of Saviour.
Other dynamic devotional speakers at the Convention were Pastor
Kevon Barnaby (Central Village District of Churches) and Pastor
Kevin Danvers (Linstead District of Churches). These two dynamic
young Pastors caused fire to be ignited in the hearts of each member
present, through the power of the Holy Spirit. Hearts were blessed
and minds were touched as we were reminded of what the power of God
can do in our lives if we just reach out by faith in Jesus.
As the last pages of earth’s history is being unfolded, let us hold
on to the ‘Signs of Hope’ despite the hopelessness and despair
around us, remembering that this place is not our final home. Let us
endeavor to help as many persons to find this hope in Christ and
hasten his soon coming by spreading “the gospel to all the world” in
our generation.
