Central Jamaica
Conference (CJC) held a two day retreat, January 21 and 22, for
Pastors and Bible Workers at the Conference Office Boardroom to
start 2009. The retreat focused on spiritual development,
evangelism, organization and administration.
Pastor Everett Brown, President of CJC, pointed out that the making
and nurturing of disciples is the major role of ministers and this
is achieved through planning. He stressed that pastors must speak to
all facets of ministry, such as Education, Youth Ministry,
Publishing and Sabbath School, in terms of their major role.
Issues of church financial management were presented by Elder Billy
Watson, Treasurer of CJC. He pointed out that fidelity, recording
and reporting is critical to save the church and persons managing
the fund.
Pastor Thomas Bryan, Stewardship Director, took time out to remind
the pastors that faithfulness to God is a form of worship. This
presentation was critical because as economic down turn loomed, the
temptation is to cut back on what is returned to God but it is only
as one is faithful that God can pour out his blessing.
Central Jamaica Conference Surpasses
Baptismal Goal
After a record breaking first quarter, driven by Pentecost and More
2008, Central Jamaica Conference has surpassed the baptismal goal
for 2008 by baptizing over 3,753 persons. According to the strategic
plan of the conference, for the period 2006 – 2010, the goal for
this year was to see at least 3,500 persons joining the family of
God.
Pastor Everett Brown, President of Central Jamaica Conference, with
a sense of delight congratulated all the pastors, bible workers, lay
preachers and members who availed themselves to be used by the Holy
Spirit. He pointed out however that even though this milestone has
been reached, there is still work to be done and souls to be saved.
The pastors took the time out to acknowledge the evangelists that
made this achievement possible. (See the
table below for a list of the top 15 districts and pastors).
Pastor Levi Johnson, Secretary and Membership Conservation
Coordinator then took the time to outline the conservation plan for
the conference. He pointed out that with effort exerted to win souls
we must use the same effort to disciple people.
