At
the recent Executive Committee meeting of the Central Jamaica
Conference of Seventh-day Adventists held on February 14, 2007, it
was voted that Pastor Kemar Douglas be appointed the position of
Associate Communication Director. This appointment became effective
March 1, 2007. He replaces Pastor Danhugh Gordon who has served the
Conference tremendously for four years in the capacity of
Communication Director. Pastor Gordon was called to serve in the
Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, as Associate
Communication Director and pastor of the Park Gate Seventh-day
Adventist Church.
Who is Pastor Kemar Douglas?
Pastor Kemar T. J. Douglas hails from the bustling community of
Portmore, St. Catherine. He became an Adventist through the work of
the Waterford Seventh-day Adventist Church at age 9; but, on
convincing his entire family to become Adventist, the family made
Kings Chapel Adventist Church, in East Jamaica Conference, their
home.
Pastor Douglas attended the Independence City All Age School and
then the renowned Calabar High School where he won numerous awards
for sports and academia. On reaching fifth form and into his sixth
form years he was assigned as an Executive Prefect to the student
body.
In
August 1996, Pastor Douglas matriculated into West Indies College,
now Northern Caribbean University (NCU), as a theology student
having accepted the call to the gospel ministry. At NCU, Pastor
Douglas was actively involved with on campus evangelistic programs,
the church and the student body association. While there, he was
also a teacher at the West Indies College High School (now Victor
Dixon High) and form there he was called to teach at NCU Pre-College
Department.
Along
with his teaching assignment, he worked heavily with the Media
Department of NCU. It was there that he honed his skills as a sound
engineer, radio broadcaster, producer, videographer and
photographer.
Upon
completion of his studies, and graduating with honours with a
Bachelors of Arts degree in Religion in 2001, he received a call to
serve the Central Jamaica Conference of Seventh-Day Adventist as an
assistant in the Communication Department, to help with 40th
Anniversary Celebration of the Conference.
He
was then assigned as a Ministerial Intern and then later Assistant
Pastor in the following circuits of churches: Sydenham, Clear Park,
May Pen, Family of God, and Denbigh. While serving in the churches,
he continued to serve on the Communication Committee of the
conference and gave assistance in the area of communication at all
major functions. He also worked in Central Jamaica Conference
Ministerial Fraternity since employment to the conference as Editor,
Assistant Editor, Librarian, Public Relations Officer and now
Treasurer.
In
October 2004, he was assigned as the district pastor for the Mike
Town Circuit of Churches where he served two years. He was then
assigned to the newly formed Spur Tree Circuit until being called to
serve the conference as Associate Communication Director and the
Associate Pastor for Bog Walk Circuit of Churches.
He
enjoys preaching the word and has accepted invitations to speak and
conducted many evangelistic campaigns, which he has lead over 400
souls to the Lord. He enjoys working with the youths and since 2006
was assigned as one of the Area Coordinators for the conference.
He is
married to the beautiful Essence Monroe-Douglas, who holds bachelors
degree from the University of the West Indies (with honours in a
double major of Psychology and Public Administration) and the
University of London (with honours in Law).
Pastor Douglas enjoys teaching, listening to good music, cooking,
and playing and talking to children and young people. His work
philosophy is, “Always leave it better than you found it,” but his
personal motto is “My Utmost for His Highest.” |
