Fifteen year-old Shane
Bramwell inspired a church and brought tears to the eyes of the
praying saints when he delivered a recent Pathfinders Day sermon at
Knockpatrick Seventh-day Adventist Church in Manchester.
“The Lord has spoken, the Lord is speaking, the Lord will speak,”
declared the enthusiastic young preacher, and beginning with
Isaiah1:18 “Come now let us reason together, saith the Lord: though
your sins be as scarlet they shall be as white as snow; though they
be red as crimson, they shall be as wool,” he cited several texts to
demonstrate God’s desire to communicate with and save humanity.
He encouraged his listeners to take time to hear and obey God. “When
the Lord speaks we should listen” he said commenting on the story of
God calling young Samuel in I Samuel 3.

Pathfinders’ Day. Hospitality major at Manchester High School, Shane
is an active Pathfinder at Knockpatrick.
Church Pastor Errol
Thomas who has been involved in Pathfinder for several years,
serving as Youth Director of West Indies Union in the pass, said “I
regard Pathfinder as a significant ministry to the junior youth of
the church and of the wider community.”
The 35-member strong Taurus Pathfinders Club at Knockpatrick is
directed by Jennifer Bruce. She sees the big picture: “Our children
are the future of nations, households, and God’s work on earth. The
Pathfinder organisation is the Church’s ministry for helping
children and youth discover God, their world and themselves.”
She explained that this is achieved through Pathfinder classes as
well as more than three hundred honours that provide instructional
options to help children and youth develop a decided jumpstart
momentum for adult achievement. She pointed to activities such as
educational field trips, conference events, national camporees,
social fund-raising, and out-reach projects.
When asked to respond to young Shane’s excellent presentation Mrs
Bruce said: “Making decisions for eternity is a central purpose of
Pathfindering. Youth are led to become a "Servant of God and a
friend to Man." Our young people are our "Acres of Diamonds." They
wait to be discovered, polished, and sent sparkling into a needy
world as diamonds for Jesus. Shane Bramwell shone for Jesus last
Sabbath, so will all our children in the Pathfinder Club.”
The Pathfinder movement is a worldwide uniformed group for young
people. It is operated by the Seventh-day Adventist world church and
instils discipline and provides a wide cross section of
character-building activities such as camping, marching, nature
study, church heritage, bible studies, and first aid.
The Administrative manual for the organisation which can be accessed
on the official website of the Seventh-day Adventist Church
describes Pathfinders this way: “It is filled with action,
adventure, challenge, group activities, and provides opportunities
for the development of new attitudes and skills that produce
personal growth, team or community spirit and a sense of loyalty and
respect for God, His Creation, and His church.”
