Pastor Samuel Anthony
Hyatt, the Pastor of the Bellas Gate District of Seventh-day
Adventist Churches, died on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Andrews
Memorial Hospital in Kingston, after a brief illness.
His wife, Jerrine, who had been by his side since he got admitted to
the hospital, noted that while there, he was still encouraging
persons who called or visited him, and he also took the time to
touch base with his elders. She stated that what gives her solace
was the fact that he was ready and if she remains faithful she will
see him again.
Pastor S. A. Hyatt was born on November 28, 1973, the only child of
Pastor Grover and Pauline Hyatt. He attended West Indies College now
Northern Caribbean University where he graduated with a Bachelor and
an Associate of Arts Degrees in Religion and a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Education. He is also a graduate of Kingsway High School.
“He was a well rounded, balanced and intelligent individual”, stated
Pastor Everett Brown, President of Central Jamaica Conference in
reflecting. “He understood clearly the role and function of a Pastor
in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.”
Since joining the work force in Central Jamaica Conference in 1999,
Pastor Hyatt has served as Chaplin and teacher at Willowdene High
School, and Ministerial Intern in the Knockpatrick District in
Manchester, and the Clear Park and Sydenham Districts in St.
Catherine. He was also very active in Youth Ministry as a trained
Master Guide and Senior Youth Leader and he assisted in our annual
junior and youth camps.
In remembering Pastor Hyatt, Pastor Levi Johnson, Secretary of
Central Jamaica Conference said, “He was a respected, committed, and
Christ-like Pastor, always planning how to improve his service to
his pastoral district and the church.”
Pastor S. Hyatt had been instrumental in the organization of the
Simon Seventh-day Adventist Company in 2005. He was also influential
in bringing the Gold Mine and Ginger Ridge Adventist Churches to the
stage of dedication in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
“His personality exuded dignity, dedication and purposefulness. His
ministry was influenced by his personality and hard work which
should be emulated by all,” Elder Billy Watson, Treasurer of Central
Jamaica Conference, stated.
Pastor Samuel A. Hyatt is survived by his wife Jerrine, his parents
Pastor Grover and Pauline Hyatt, and other relatives and friends.
