Central Jamaica Conference mourns the passing of  Pastor Samuel A. Hyatt


Pastor Samuel Anthony Hyatt, the Pastor of the Bellas Gate District of Seventh-day Adventist Churches, died on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Andrews Memorial Hospital in Kingston, after a brief illness.

His wife, Jerrine, who had been by his side since he got admitted to the hospital, noted that while there, he was still encouraging persons who called or visited him, and he also took the time to touch base with his elders. She stated that what gives her solace was the fact that he was ready and if she remains faithful she will see him again.

Pastor S. A. Hyatt was born on November 28, 1973, the only child of Pastor Grover and Pauline Hyatt. He attended West Indies College now Northern Caribbean University where he graduated with a Bachelor and an Associate of Arts Degrees in Religion and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. He is also a graduate of Kingsway High School.

“He was a well rounded, balanced and intelligent individual”, stated Pastor Everett Brown, President of Central Jamaica Conference in reflecting. “He understood clearly the role and function of a Pastor in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.”

Since joining the work force in Central Jamaica Conference in 1999, Pastor Hyatt has served as Chaplin and teacher at Willowdene High School, and Ministerial Intern in the Knockpatrick District in Manchester, and the Clear Park and Sydenham Districts in St. Catherine. He was also very active in Youth Ministry as a trained Master Guide and Senior Youth Leader and he assisted in our annual junior and youth camps.

In remembering Pastor Hyatt, Pastor Levi Johnson, Secretary of Central Jamaica Conference said, “He was a respected, committed, and Christ-like Pastor, always planning how to improve his service to his pastoral district and the church.”

Pastor S. Hyatt had been instrumental in the organization of the Simon Seventh-day Adventist Company in 2005. He was also influential in bringing the Gold Mine and Ginger Ridge Adventist Churches to the stage of dedication in 2006 and 2007 respectively.

“His personality exuded dignity, dedication and purposefulness. His ministry was influenced by his personality and hard work which should be emulated by all,” Elder Billy Watson, Treasurer of Central Jamaica Conference, stated.

Pastor Samuel A. Hyatt is survived by his wife Jerrine, his parents Pastor Grover and Pauline Hyatt, and other relatives and friends.

Persons are invited to sign the condolence register in the lobby at the Central Jamaica Conference Headquarters, 58 Brunswick Avenue in Spanish Town.

His funeral service will be at the Spanish Town Seventh-day Adventist Church Sunday, May 25 at 10 a.m.
