At
the beginning of the quarter the Health Ministries Department of the
Oliver Gardens SDA Church under the leadership of Nurse K. Walker
took the initiative to educate its members on current health
concerns facing the country of Jamaica. Topics such as Gastro
Enteritis, Personal Hygiene and HIV-AIDS were discussed. CPR Classes
were also conducted.
During the month of February the young people of the church along
with other members went out into their communities to visit shut-in
members and cleaned their homes and surroundings. Some of these
persons were assisted with clothing, mattresses and food items.
Golden Agers homes were also visited and worship services held with
the occupants.
In the month of March the first quarterly Health Clinic was held
which saw 5 doctors and 3 nurses from the parish of Clarendon
contributing their time and energy in examining patients. An ECG
machine was also utilized to do heart tests. Overall 96 patients
were seen by these medical practitioners. In support of this health
program sponsored by the church, nine pharmaceutical companies along
with other individuals contributed medications and other medical
items.
