Pastor Edwin Austin
Hyatt, the second president of Central Jamaica Conference of
Seventh-day Adventists was laid to rest January 11, 2009. The
service was conducted at the Spencerville Seventh-day Adventist
Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA.
The homily entitled ‘Longing’ was presented by Dr. Newton Hoilette.
He pointed out the blessed hope that is in Christ Jesus our Lord, as
he expounded on the bible text “as the deer panteth for the water,
so my soul panteth after thee, O Lord” (Psalm 42:1).
Pastor Everett Brown, President of Central Jamaica Conference, in
paying tribute at the service stated that, “for almost two decades
the late Edwin Hyatt, through his unselfish Christian life and
witness, did not only make his mark on the physical landscape of the
Conference but has also left a lasting impression on the minds of
those he worked with and served.” He went on to say that, “we will
always remember and cherish the memories that we have of him. Today
we pay tribute to him for his dedicated and committed Christian
ministry, for his extraordinary mature and spiritual leadership and
for the countless number of estranged families he helped heal and
reconciled.”
To those of us who remain and especially to his wife of 55 years
Mavis and children, Beverley, Marlene, Edwin Jr. and Charmaine,
Pastor Brown had these words to say, “may the life he lived continue
to inspire you to commit and recommit your lives to the God he
offered his life to. May his faith in God bring you hope and
consolation in this time of need. I pray that the God of peace will
comfort and keep you until resurrection morning when our hopes and
dreams of renewing our relationship with our loved ones and Jesus
our Saviour, will become a reality.”
