Preparatory School, Sis. Veronica Turner, address the congregation
at Education Summit 2008 with her staff and students behind her.
‘Education and More’ was the theme of the second annual Education
Summit held April 19, 2008 at the Victor Dixon High School. Even
though the setting was changed from that of a church, hundreds
turned out for the annual service.

Education and Health Director of Central
Jamaica Conference, Pastor Dudley Mullings, giving the welcome and
opening remarks at the Education Summit 2008.
Pastor Dudley Mullings, Education and Health Director of Central
Jamaica Conference, in commenting on the day’s proceedings stated,
“The groups that took part were just wonderful and overwhelming at
times. This is what we can expect from Christian education.”
The Education Summit is planned by the Education Department at
Central Jamaica Conference to bring together all the Adventist
schools within its territory, whether owned by the church or
privately. It also seeks to promote Christian education and
therefore the Education Sponsors from the churches along with
members were invited.
“Christian education is the duty of every parent,” said Mrs. Orchid
Smith, Principal of Victor Dixon High School. She went on to say
that, “This responsibility given to our schools is a tremendous one,
because, we train not just for time but also for eternity.”
Six schools were involved in the summit conducting or participating
in various parts of the programme. The Victor Dixon High School lead
out in the Sabbath School using the imagery of a television
broadcast. This was then followed by the Campbell’s Castle
Preparatory School doing a brief presentation on the importance of
Christian education. The Divine Hour segment was coordinated by the
Willowdene Group of Schools. The evening programme was done by the
West Indies College Preparatory School, Northern Caribbean
University and the May Pen High School.

Principal of the Willowdene Group of
Schools, Elder Basil Tabannor, preaching the good news about
Christian education as one of his staff member looks on. He was the
Divine Hour speaker for Education Summit 2008.
The Divine Hour speaker, Mr. Basil Tabannor, Principal of the
Willowdene Group of Schools, charged the audience to know and have
an experience with God. He noted that Christian education has its
set of challenges, but, it is those challenges that make us see the
need to rely on God. He stated, “Amidst all the challenges we must
remember Jehovah Jireh, ‘the Lord will provide’.”
Pastor Mullings ended the day’s activities by encouraging all to
support Christian education. He asked all to remember the quote from
the book Education by Ellen G. White, “Higher than the highest human
thought can reach is God's ideal for His children” (p.18).
Let us rally around our schools and support our institutions.
