“Sharing Words of Hope”
The Central
Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists’ Convention 2007 was
off to a great start in Manchester, where hundreds of Seventh-day
Adventists gathered together at the Mandeville S.D.A. Church,
seeking to be more infused by the Holy Spirit. In promulgating the
gospel of the soon coming King, under the theme “Sharing Words of
Hope”, the congregation was extremely touched by the prominent and
timely words of God, delivered by three dynamic speakers.
Dr. Newton
Cleghorne, Dean of the School of Religion and Theology at the
Northern Caribbean University emphatically led us to that Most Holy
Place where we could embrace the Holy Spirit’s call to be
ambassadors for His cause. Pastor Ronnie Henry, shepherd of the
Maranatha district of churches further took us to the throne of
grace where we sought to order our lives in harmony with the values
of the Lord Jesus Christ. And as we continued the journey to the
Promised Land, Pastor Basil Sturrup of the Northern Caribbean
University Church admonished us to look to the Father as challenges
are awaiting us, but it is only with the help of the Almighty that
we will be able to carry on the work of the Master.
The Central
Jamaica Conference is following the Lord Jesus Christ, in
proclaiming the Everlasting Gospel as highlighted in the Three
Angels’ Messages of Revelation 14, working through its many agencies
to impact communities in preparing for His imminent return.
The parish of
Manchester was able to make tremendous achievements in advancing the
work of the gospel. The 2006 Ingathering Highlights of the parish
boasted a total collection of $1,164,284.21, surpassing its initial
goal of $876,810.00. The top Manchester Ingatherers were Bro.
Douglas Anderson from the Newport S.D.A. Church and Bro. Clarence
Swaby from the Northern Caribbean University Church. They both
collected a total of $46,500.00 and $35,000.00 respectively. The
Most Outstanding Church was Roses Valley while the Maranatha
District also came out on top in its Ingathering mission.
As was highlighted
by the President of the Central Jamaica Conference, Pastor Everett
Brown, accomplishments are marked by core values which are the
bedrock principles at the very heart of the organisation. Below are
the Strategic Issues to be implemented in 2007-2010:
1. GROWTH AND
CONSOLIDATION
To effect continuous growth and consolidation in membership,
establishing new congregations, and increasing financial resources.
2. UNITY
To foster harmony among believers in church life, practice,
doctrine, and organizational functions/structures
3. QUALITY OF LIFE AND COMMUNITY IMPACT
To create an atmosphere in which the members will demonstrate the
character of Christ in lifestyle values and wholistic living, and
contributing to the wholistic development of the community in which
they serve.
4. EDUCATION AND TRAINING
To restore God’s image in humanity, nurturing and developing
practical preparation and commitment for sacrificial service
All leaders and members of the conference will seek to order their
lives in harmony with these values as we prepare for the return of
the Messiah.
