“It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35”

These words echoed throughout the minds of all gathered at the inaugural launch of the Central Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists’ Community Services Centre. The launch on Friday, April 18, 2008, was held under the theme “Deposit and Withdraw with Love.” The Community Services Centre located on Brunswick Avenue, Spanish Town, will seek to assist and provide for members in need within the Conference’s local churches with shoes and clothing.

Attending the launch was Pastor Everett Brown, President of the Central Jamaica Conference who indicated that God has called us to use resources that are available to share the gospel with men and women, and by so doing it is essential that not only the spiritual needs of these individuals be taken care of, but also the physical needs. Pastor Brown noted that this initiative is a seed that has been planted and there are future plans to extend the service that is offered at this Community Services Centre. He further went on to pledge the blessings and support of the Conference’s resources to make this programme a success.

Guest speaker at the launch was Mrs. Claudette Dunn-Bennett, who works at the Electoral Office of Jamaica, Region 6, St. Catherine and a member of the McCooks Seventh-day Adventist Church. She urged those in attendance to do their best with what they have and what God has blessed them with. She also noted that by being a positive influence to others will lead to a better community and ultimately a better Jamaica.

Pastor Levi Johnson, Secretariat of the Conference shared the sentiments with that of the Conference’s President and also appealed to the Community Services Leaders as well as the Bible Workers within the churches to share this vision with the churches in St. Catherine. He pointed out that Pastor Jonathan Miller, Community Services Director of the Conference will spearhead this initiative between the Conference and Spanish Town Adventist Church, by providing the necessary council to ensure the effective, sustainable operation of this outreach ministry to serve the under privileged within the Churches.

Also in attendance was Elder Billy Watson, Treasurer (CJC). Other Conference Directors present were Pastor Jonathan Miller, Community Services Director, Mrs. Mary Cole, Women’s and Children’s Ministries Director, Pastor Orlando Patterson, Ministerial Director, Pastor Kemar Douglas, Associate Communications Director and Pastor Everett Smith, Personal Ministries and Sabbath School Director.

As the Conference increases its efforts to ‘Deposit and Withdraw With Love’ in this part of the vineyard, and ultimately within the entire Conference, an appeal is being made to all members to do the same not only in your local church but also within your community. This will leave a tremendous impact on the lives of many, indicating the love and blessings of the Lord in their lives.
