“The
work of God in this earth can never be finished until the men and
women comprising our church membership rally to the work, and unite
their efforts with those of ministers and church officers”( Ellen G.
White, Gospel Workers, p. 352).
The
Conference took the time to recognize sixty-nine persons who heeded
this message; some who have given decades of selfless service that
has significantly contributed to the rapid growth of our churches.
These
torch bearers were given special awards for consistently igniting
their territory at the recent held Camp Meeting 2007. Fifty-one
persons were awarded in the area of long service. The long service
awards were presented in the following areas: Community Services,
Deacon and Deaconess, Health Ministry, Leadership, Sabbath School,
Treasury, Women’s Ministry, and Youth Leadership. Awards were also
presented to 18 outstanding Lay Workers.
(See the list below.)
In
his opening statement, Pastor Everett Brown, President of CJC lauded
them for being motivating factors in gospel ministry:
“You
have used your gifts to edify the church and we have been motivated
by your commitment to God and the church. If you remain faithful a
crown of life will await you and Jesus will award you with life
eternal,” he told them.

Knight, Sis. Yvonne Knight and Pastor Everett Brown
Dr.
Gladstone Earl Knight, Executive Secretary of the Greater New York
Conference, the special guest speaker for Camp Meeting 2007, charged
the audience that the work is still before us and God has called us
at a time such as this.
One of the those persons who received a long service award is
Charles Henry of Corlettes Road SDA church in Spanish Town, who has
served as a deacon for over 40 years. He was married and baptized
into the faith during the 1960’s and never hesitated to begin his
ministry as a deacon.
“It
was a beautiful experience. I love the system of the church and it
is a pleasure for me to serve,” he remarked.
Mr.
Henry acknowledges that it is God’s plan for him to serve his church
faithfully and is convinced that his labour has not been in vain.
His encouragement is that we should not relent regardless of what is
happening along our line of duty and we should “study the Word and
it will keep you going. Don’t look outside.”

Sis. Greta Robinson receiving her award
from Pastor Everett Brown
The
President, Pastor Everett Brown, presented two special awards to
persons who gave tireless service to Church. One of the special
awards went to Sis. Greta Robinson who has served as Chairperson of
the Decorations Committee and who’s handy-work can be seen at every
Camp Meeting. The other special award went Bro. Hervin Hamilton.
Bro. Hamilton has worked for this Conference for over 34 years and
will retire in 2008.
