Awardees listening intently at the Awards
Ceremony
Cedar Grove Seventh Day
Adventist Church created history when thirty five members from the
church and its environs were awarded for their service to the church
and community at the Marantha Seventh Day Adventist church at 4:30
pm on Sunday, January 25, 2009 under the theme “Fanning the Flames
of Ardent Service.”

Dr. Earl Cameron, the keynote speaker at
the ceremony
The guest speaker for
the evening’s programme was Dr. Earl Cameron, Associate Professor in
the School of Religion and Theology at the Northern Caribbean
University. In his keynote address, Dr. Cameron spoke about Vessels
of Honour. He made reference to Paul’s letter about the vessels made
of gold, silver, wood and earth in 2 Timothy 2:20 and 21. He
mentioned that there are persons who have given invaluable service
and are referred to as precious gems while there are others who have
not given much service and are likened to the wood and earth. He
concluded that the awards ceremony was intended for these precious
gems who have made sterling contribution to church and community.
Heartfelt greetings were extended by Dr. Gilbert Allen,Custos
Rotulorum of Manchester; Councillors Garfield Harrison and Sally
Porteous; Devon Champier on behalf of the Central Jamaica
Conference; Rose Griffiths from the Social Development Commission
and Verly Miller, one of the first five individuals baptized at the
